NEW YORK – The World Jewish Congress (WJC) issued the following statement after the United Nations Security Council on Monday voted to authorize the establishment of an International Stabilization Force (ISF) within the Gaza Strip:
“The creation of this force is a critical component of the broader regional peace framework first advanced by the United States and key partners. It reflects a shared understanding that long-term stability in Gaza—and the prevention of Hamas’ return to power—are essential prerequisites for any future in which Israelis and Palestinians can live securely, side-by-side.
“Today’s vote represents an important step toward restoring order and rebuilding hope in Gaza two years after the horrific October 7th terrorist attack. It is now incumbent upon the international community to approach this mission with seriousness, unity, and a firm commitment to ensuring that Gaza can never again be used as a base for terror.
“As these diplomatic and security efforts move forward, the bodies of the three remaining hostages must be returned so they may be laid to rest with dignity and the burial they deserve.”
