NEW YORK – Following an explosion targeting a synagogue in Liège, Belgium on Monday morning, the World Jewish Congress (WJC) released the following statement:
“This criminal act against a Jewish house of worship is deeply alarming and part of a broader and troubling rise in antisemitic incidents and violent extremism across Europe. Jewish communities must never be forced to fear for their safety when gathering to pray or practice their faith.
“We stand in full solidarity with the Jewish community of Liège and with the Coordination Committee of Jewish Organisations in Belgium (CCOJB), a World Jewish Congress affiliate.
“We call on the Belgian authorities to ensure that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice and to adopt a national strategy against antisemitism to guarantee the safety and security of Jewish institutions.”
