Dr. Kenneth R. Weinstein is the Japan Chair at the Hudson Institute, where he served as President and CEO from 2011 to 2020. Dr. Weinstein has held senior roles under the last four U.S. administrations, including chairing the Broadcasting Board of Governors and serving as chair of Radio Free Europe, Radio Free Asia, Middle East Broadcasting, and the Open Technology Fund. He also served on the Advisory Committee on Trade Policy and Negotiations, providing counsel to the U.S. Trade Representative, and in 2020 was nominated by President Trump to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Japan. A political theorist by training, Dr. Weinstein has written widely for leading publications in the United States, Europe, and Asia. He also serves on several nonprofit boards in the U.S. and Europe and was decorated by France as a Knight in Arts and Letters. Dr. Weinstein earned his BA from the University of Chicago, a DEA from Sciences Po in Paris, and a PhD in Government from Harvard University.
